Water supply anti corruption movement formed in Uganda

UWIN – the Water Integrity Network Uganda is a multi-stakeholder network that brings together organisations and individuals from the water sector and the anti-corruption movement in Uganda.

The coalition unites representatives from civil society (e.g. ACCU, NETWAS, TI UGANDA, UWASNET, Water Aid Uganda), private sector (e.g. APWO), government (Ministry of Water and Environment) and development partners. The UWIN contact person is Jo Smets from the IRC- International Water and Sanitation Centre.

The coalition has been formed to address the demand for a collective voice for increased water integrity and improve coordination among various groups and their activities.

Its objectives are to support and monitor the implementation of the Good Governance Action Plan of the Ugandan Ministry of Water and Environment as well as the joint undertaking of water integrity actions in the country.

Activists form network to fight corruption in water sector

A new country based Water Integrity Network coalition has been formed to fight corruption in the water sector in Bangladesh.

The multi-stakeholder coalition BAWIN (Bangladesh Water Integrity Network) was founded by Transparency International- Bangladesh (TI-B), Bangladesh Water Partnership (BWP), Nagorik Udyog (Citizens’ Intitiative), and the Water Resource Planning Organisation (WARPO). It echoes WIN’s approach to bring together water sector and transparency focused professionals to promote transparency and prevent corruption in the water sector in South Asia and worldwide. New web site highlights succesful public water utilities

Dear researchers, policy makers and activists,

We are excited to announce the launch of the new website for the Municipal Services Project – www.municipalservicesproject.org.

Now in its third phase, the MSP is exploring and evaluating models of service delivery that are deemed to be successful alternatives to commercialization, in an effort to understand the conditions required for their sustainability and reproducibility.

Our focus is on the water, electricity and primary health care sectors in Africa, Asia and Latin America . The project is composed of academic, labour, NGO and social movement partners from around the world. It is our hope that this website will be the site to go to for new and emerging research on alternatives to the privatization of municipal services. Read More…

World toilet summit 2009

“The World Toilet Summit & Expo 2009 (WTSE) will be held in Suntec Singapore from the 2 – 4 Dec 2009.

This annual platform, organized by the World Toilet Organisation, aims to bring the sanitation community together to share their knowledge, experience and to build effective partnerships between the relevant stakeholders.
The theme for the 3-day conference will focus on “Creating the Blueprint for a Sustainable Sanitation Marketplace”. It will focus on demand creation, developing appropriate technology and design and exploring creative financial mechanisms to fund sanitation projects.
